WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a technology, broadband wireless access (broadband wireless access or BWA abbreviated) which have high speed access to a wide range. WiMAX is an evolution of previous BWA technology with features that are more interesting. Besides the high data rates can be given, WiMAX is also a technology with open standards. In a sense WiMAX communication between multiple devices of different vendors can still be done (not proprietary). With a large data rates (up to 70 MBps), WiMAX can be applied to a broadband connection 'last mile', or backhaul.
